SANDBox
Ready, set, write
SANDBox was our flagship new-writing programme, aimed at supporting both writers and actors in the development of new work.
Once per season, we put out an open call for short scripts. We’d also put out an open call for actors who wanted to develop their experience working with new writing. We’d select up to 7 scripts, then, once a week, we would meet with this group of actors and run a three-hour workshop exploring one of these scripts – the writers would be invited to sit in on and observe the process.
Following the workshop, writers would be offered feedback and development notes to fine-tune their writing. Each script was workshopped twice over a “semester”, and was then shared at our final presentation.
This programme offered early-career writers the chance to actually see what is happening when their script is being worked on in a rehearsal process. And it offered a chance for actors to regularly grow and develop their skills in working with new text.
Unfortunately, SANDBox isn’t running at the moment due to funding constraints, but we hope to get up and running again in the next year or so. Keep an eye on our socials for more info!
