STEPHEN JOSEPH TRANSFER
Moving on up…
In 2026, VAULT Creative Arts ran the inaugural Stephen Joseph Transfer in partnership with The Cockpit Theatre. This scheme offers one company in LowMAC’s spring season a full week to develop and deliver their work at The Cockpit. It’s aimed at artists showing exceptional promise for making work in-the-round, and who would benefit from the opportunity to scale up to a larger space.
Alongside the week’s programming slot, the company also recieves a free week of rehearsal space at LowMAC, and mentorship from the Artistic Directors at both The Cockpit and LowMAC.
The Cockpit is London’s oldest and largest in-the-round theatre with 220 seats. At just 50 seats, LowMAC might be London’s smallest in-the-round venue. With this programme, these organisations hope to encourage more early-career artists to make work in-the-round, supporting them reach new audiences and develop their craft, at a time when it seems many other venues are shying away from such work.
The programme is named after Stephen Joseph – a pioneer and champion of in-the-round theatre in the UK – and is supported also by the Stephen Joseph Committee, a sub-committee of the Association of British Theatre Technicians.
THE HIGHGATE VAMPIRE
More of this is true than we would like.
London, 1970.
Something horrifying stalks the streets of London. A creature with blazing red eyes, sucking the life out of all who cross it’s path, leaving only terror in it’s wake.
A demon-hunting Priest and his sworn enemy, a man who’s a tobacconist by day and a vanquisher of the undead by night, both set out to destroy the creature forever. An uneasy alliance. London’s own vampire. Both heading to the dark heart of Highgate.
And now, if you’re sitting comfortably, they will tell you how it happened….
“This tale is undoubtedly true. And WE have come to tell it….”
Based on real events, the critically acclaimed Bag of Beard Theatre bring you the unheard and undead tale of ‘The Highgate Vampire’. A new dark comedy that asks you to imagine, among other things, what if The Woman in Black had been performed by The Mighty Boosh?
A horrifying new play, an ink-dark comedy and very possibly the most shocking true story you haven’t heard. Yet.
It is time for the lecture to begin. Always Beware the Highgate Vampire….
